Monday, August 3, 1953.
The Honorable Board of County Commissioners met in regular session at 10:00 A. M.,
with &1 members present.
A latter was received from the Postmaster at Port Townsend requesting that the road
at Fairmount be improved so that the postal service will be able to make mail deliveries
in that area. The matter will be taken care of as soon as equipment is available.
Mr. George Simpokes appeared and requested the short piece of road from the Chevy
Chas/ll Road to the Miller Road, be oiled to prevent the danger of accident.s occurring
from the e>:treme dust. The Miller T'oad is on the oiling program for 1954, but the
Board ordered the above short piece to be oiled when the Chevy Chase road is oiled
this year. An old garbage dump near the Arcadia i,8 still not covered over and is a
detriment to health in that area. The Board ordered the road crew to use a bull dozer
and cover the unsightly place.
The Board ordered the certified check for $90.00 to be returned to t.he Columbia
Equipment Company. This accompanied their bid for a rubber tired roller.
Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved as read.
Engineer' Keith Jones appeared and reported on program for road work for 1954:
The Bee Mill road - culvert and fill needed.
Ed Bishop Road - fUrther repair work needed.
Oiling for county will amount to about $45,000.00.
Chima cum road to be completed to the pavement~hough the airport turnoff.
For the purpose of securing Federal Aid money for the Chimacum road project now
under way, Resolution No. C-2l2 was signed as follows:
RESOLUTION NO. C-2l2.

V1HEREAS under and by virtue of the terms of that certain agreement made and
entered into by and between the County of Jefferson and the State of Washington, acting
through its Department of Highways and the Director thereof, under date of August 3,
1953, the State will act as agent for the County of Jefferson in the participation of
said County with the Bureau of Public Roads under the provisions of the Federal Aid
Road Act of 1944, for the construction of Feder'al Aid Secondary Pro\1ect No. S-0322(1)
Chimacum Road, copy of which a~reement is hereunto attached, now referred to and by
such reference incorporated herein and made a part hereof, now, therefore,
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that said agreement be and the same is hereby retified and
approvedj and
BE IT HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director of Highways be and he is hereby
authorized and requested to make expenditures as are necessary from available state
funds for and on behalf of the County of Jefferson to the extent of Twenty Thousand,
Three Hundred Ninety-eight. and 68/100 Dollars ($20,398.6$) as a part or said County's
participating share and costs in the above-mentioned project, reimbursement therefore
being hereby pledged as a part of this resolution, to-witj That there shall be and there
hereby is reservedi set aside and appropriated from the County Road 1"und of the County
of Jefferson and a located for the use and purpose herein mentioned the sum of Twenty
Thousand, Three Hundred Ninety-eight and 68(100 Dollars ($20,398.68), which sum 16 to be
held by said County in trust for the sole and exclusive purpose of making reimbursement
therefrom to the State of Washington for such expenditures made by said State for and on
behalf of said County as a part of said County's participating share and costs in the
above-mentioned project. When and as the County is billed by the Director of Highways
for reimbursement for such expenditure made by the State, such billings when properly sup-
ported by current accumulative estimates of the total cost of the aforementioned project
to the dato thereof shall be promptly paid by warrant or warrants drawn on the County
Road Fund to the extent of the approprint.ion hereby made, reserved and set aside and
allocated to such use and purpose.

~~. L. R. Churchill appeared boforotho Board regarding tho road acroaa hia property
in Shine, to Mr. Feeloy's property. Since there is no record showing this to bo a
county roadl the Board went on record B8 having no juriadiction over thio road.
