Mr. Arey informed the delegation that there is no definite knowledge of the exact
location of the proposed Hood Canal Bridge, and until that time, he could not see the
advisability of building the road until it can be terminated at the bridge site.
Mr. E. K. Westley, l~. Jack Broshear, Mr. T. R. Yarr, John Yarr, James Yarr,
H. A. McLain, Ted Danielsen, and Clifford Ruedy were in the delegation.
Mr. Bertil Kruse and Mr. Huntingford both expressed opinions that toe road should
be built, when the location is decided upon for the bridge. Mr. Huntingford stated he would
would consider the road program. Engineer Keith Jones stated that the approach to the
bridge could be made much more reasonable to the County if the definite location of
the Hood Canal Bridge was kno\~ and he expects to have the information within a few
monthw. Mr. Dick Watts of the State Association of County Commissioners spoke on the
matter stating that the State 'would probably hook up a network of approaches to meet
their existing State highways. The Board agreed the road would be built as soon as
it is established where the Bridge is located, and if the State does not build roads
that will taks care of the s:l.tuation.
Ralph McKernan and Ken Swain appeared discussing road machinery.
A letter was received from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers relative to the
County t~~ing over, the Cemetery at Fort Worden, Washington. Due to lack of funds
available for perpetual care of the cemetery, George Huntingford made a motion, seconded
by Bertil Kruse, that the County is not financially able to take the responsibility
at this time.
No further businGss appearing before the Board, the meeting was adjourned, to meet
in regular session on Monday, October 5, 1953.
