The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session with all members present. A request was made from the Historical Affairs Comndttee of the Chamber of Commerce, suggesting that a bronzo placque be installed on the Courthouse giving the name and date the st~cture was built. Upon motion made by George Huntingford, seconded by Lyall Arey, Harvey 0 Christian was designated to examine the old Courthouse journals and ascertain the basic' bs ckgrl-ound prior to the building of the Courthouse and catalog such data, and prese:lt satne to the Board. A 1961 Timber Cutting Permit was issued by the Dept. of Natural Resources to P & L Logging Co., for County land SW; NE;NE; S~c. 23 T. 27NR2W, on which they purchased timber. The Board members proceeded to. the office of the County Treasurer and counted cash. The amount of $594.70 was correct for cash in the office. The Treasurer's report was signed. The commisstoners proceeded to view several road jobs with the County Engineer. Monday, July 17 1961. This being the time advertised for hearing on the petition of the officers of the First Presbyterian Church of Quilcene, for vacation of that portion of Washington Street lying between the southerly line of Columbia Street and the Northerly line of State Highway No. 101 in Hamilton's Five Acre Tracts, Jefferson County. A. Clemens Grady appeared. Mr. Noah Johnson appeared and entered a protest to the yacation. Mr. Julian Oen, Mrs. Lura Mae Schafer and others appeared in behalf of the Church. The matter was discussed and George Huntingford made a motionL seconded by Lyall Arey that the matter be continued to August 7, 1961, to enable the vounty Engineer to make a study of the matter and the Commissioners to also look into this. Mr. Johnson was requested to meet with the Church people to see if an agreement can be reached. An application for renewal of liquor license was approved for Philip Sidney Whittenore d/b/a Westward Hoh, Upper Hoh Road, Forks, Yash., E license. . Annual liquor licenses were granted by the State Liquor Control Board to Chester E. An application for lease on behalf of Seaview Estates Inc., was receiled from A. Clemens Grady for Block 51. except lots 1-5 inc. Block 52L 60 and 61 all in Fowler's Park.Add. to City of Port Townsend. $lO.OO was deposited. ltwas agreed to put this, up for County sale at a later date. It \'/as agreed to provide quarters for the Dept. of Public Assistance at the rental rate of $lOO.OO per month as in the past. No plans are mude for improvements or redeco- ration. Motion by Lyall Arey, 5econded by George Huntingford. Mr. vrn. Porter of Port Ludlow appeared relative to Swansonville Road. The Board members agreed to meet with Mr. Porter. Mr. Werner and Gus Erickson at 1:00 p.m. to view the road and discuss what might be needed. This being the time advertised for opening bids for consbuction of a prefabricated prestressed concrete bridge across ~lloughby Creek on County Road #2l6, (Upper Hoh Road). Port Townsend,$ll,342.00 Quigg Bros-McDonald, Inc., 1500 Riverside Ave., Hoquiam, Wash.$4,777.50 Upon motion made by Lyall Are~, seconded by George Huntingford, the bid of Quigg Bros- McDonald, Inc., in amount of ~4,777.50 wan accepted. A request was received from East Peninsula Telephone Co. for placing of buried wire and cables on the County right-of-way on Quilcene - ChIma cum Road. An agreement was signed wi th motion made by Lyall Arey, seconded by George lIuntin~ford to grant permission for above request. The plat of Cape George Colony, Division I and Division II was presented by Mr. Howard G. Riddell, of Cape George Land Company. This was accepted and approved by the Board of County Commissioners. ~ A letter waa roceived from Prosecuting Attorney W. J. Daly requeoting the Board ton~n8 need of an elevator in tho Courthouse, and alao the need of an auxiliary water hoating unit, 60 that the main furnaoe need not be u60d for heating water in the Bummer months.
