The regular meeting of the Board of Jefferson County Commissioners was called to
by Chairman George Huntingford.
Mrs. Kay Thomas, Mrs. Hicks, Mrs. James, Mr. Perry and Mrs. Hubbard from Shine urea apQm
appeared in behalf of the Shine Community to urge the commissioners to improve the Shine ii
road for school bus travdl. Mrs. Thomas pointed out that 'l'arboo road and airport cut of;!
were being improved and Shine road needed it more. l'Jr. Huntingford pointed out the Wasl~a.
ington State Patrol and the School District had rerouted the school bus. ~~s. Hicks sa~d
the road is badly eroding and they feel it is a hazard to travel. Engineer Becker ii
explained the road program projects. Feel (Shine delegates) that present bus stop on
the highway is dangerous. I'I.r. Becker will look at road again. and school District 49 'i
will be contacted to help reach a ~olution. Mr. Becker will report to Commissioners on r
Friday. The Shine people felt Port Townsend was to blame for the condition of their
' roads - all they were interested in here in was their t.ax bills.

Dora Brown, Shelton, appeared in regard to acreage she bought across from the McClurg:
property in Quilcene, to ask the commissioners the reopen COUNty road into her property. i:
After investigation by the Engineer, it was reported it is a County road and the grader
will be run through and opened.
Mr. veveridge of l\larrowstone Island appeared in behalf of Carl Johnson, Mrs. DeVere
and himself in regard to work on road to their .property (16' road). Engineer will
have to take matter under consideration. Kr. Beveridge felt they would be happy with
about 5 or 6 loads of gravel, but not have the road opened all the way to East Beach"
as they wi 5h it to be kept in its semi-private state, not for publi c usa. Engineer
Becker will advise him.

Earl Woodley asked Commissioners if he could obtain from the County and State a
permanent permit for moving equipment for overweight or overwidth. He was advised
that he must have a permit for each move.
Phil Copps and Duane Clocksin of County Planning Commission appeared in regard to
Federal and State law requiring Regional Planning Commission. The Federal 701 Funds
will not be forthcoming until Regional Commission is appointed. Walter Kelly will
represent County on Regional Commission.

I'~, Becker asked Commissioners if a site consisting of 1. 59 acres bought by the County::
for a gravel p1'i:. could be sold. Cornrnisssioners advised Becker to consult with Prosecutor
Daly to see if this can be declared surplus and sold. ::
Letter received from Lonnie D. McGrew asking for use of Jefferson County Memorial Fiel~
from December 9, 1967 through Christmas for the 4-H Christmas Tree sales. A letter \rill ii
be written granting then permission to use the field only stipulation is that they ~dll i!
be required to remove old trees from the premise after Christmas and leave the field in
good order.

Auditor read Commissioners copy of memorandum sent to all persons in Jefferson County
who officiate at marriage ceremony regarding procedure change effective January 1, 196$.
(regarding new certificate of marriage from 1I1ashington State Department of Health _
Bureau of Vital Statistiqs).

Bill Thomas of 'l'exuco and Pete Pederson of Mobil appeared regarding gas bids for i
the County. In regard to forthcoming bid, the Commissioners agreed to change the bid dat~
'to .January 2, 1968 at 10:00 a.m. and will be bid on a county wide basis and not a two "
bid basis for each end of' County. All oil companies' local distributors will be notified:.

Mr. Huntingford reported on his and Mr. Becker's sur.velance of the Shine road
:conditions and the school bus route. It Was determined that the Shine area has the
:llafest bus stops of any school bus rout.a. Mr. Ken Ingman and Mr. 9chalf, Chimacum
pchool Superintendednt and Bus Drive~ on the Shine route, accompanied Mr. Huntingford
': and Mr. Becker on initial inspection. Mr. Becker has written and talked by telephone
