II /I!,' The Honorable doard of County Commissioners met in regular session with all ~ members present. II 'I Ii 'I Ii if ;i I' Ii L i' I: \1 . May 6, 1968 Tom Parks, Skyway Construction, appeared in regard to Courthouse repair. Parks recommended the following maintenance problems be given attention: 1. Walker Street side (weather. side) has bad column and arches over windows have loose brick. I 2. All domes are starting to rust. application and paint. Need sandblasting, rust resistant 3. Gutters are rusting through. I 4. Clock tower - balcony section, mortar gone in tie section. 5. Roof repair due to wind damage. 6. Stack cap on the main chimney gone. Mr. Parks estimates ~lO,OOO.OO repair work this year. If it is let go until wind or quake damage gets worse it :will be a major rebuild job. Mr. Arey recalled the last extensive repair to the building w~s done in 1948. Mr. Parks suggested the repair work be done on time, material and hourly basis as a formal bid will have to cover all forseeable happenings and would be more costly to "the county. Commissioners will consider repairs and advise 1-1r. Parks at a later date. A delegation from the Matts Matts Improvement Club (~~. & ~~s. Cecil Clark, Bill MacDonald, James Boeger and R. H. VAn Valkenburg) appeared regarding a rash of shooting in their area. l'lail boxes and stop signs have been used for target practice. Their concern is not only for people shooting on private property but from high power rifles and gUllS from high powered motor boats. Coast Guard has jurisdiction but when ~hey are called they refer people to the game warden. Game warden has been W)rking nights and when he is called his wife will not disturb him from his sleep. One resident reported 116 shots fired one afternoon. Concern is expeessed due to the many homes in the area. 'i Permi3cuous shooting is a hazard to life and property. Sheriff' Hansen ca.ne to the i! meeting and explained the present law governing shooting and the handling of 'fire arms. Ii Commissioners were urged to take action to outlaw shooting in the I'f,atts Matts area. )}ot~ Sheriff HUl1sen und Prosecuting Attorney Daly felt that no county ordinance or law can " control un individu"".l shoDting on nis own property. Sheriff IIansen asked t;he Board of Commi3sionoru t.o conuider t.he establishing of a shooting arep for public use. . I , 11:00 (.I.m. bid openinc for EnLineer's new car.
