Bob Hansen, County Sheriff, and Bill Daly, ,Prosecuting; Attorney, appeared
to discuss a growing County problem. The Department of Institutions :I.s returning
problems to the communities that cannot be helped with counseling or rehabilitation,
whi ch puts the burden on the county for the care of alcoholi cs and retarded individuals.
Sheriff Hansen and Prosecutor Daly will investigate possible County alternatives and !
after their evaluations and determinations for possible county solutions, they will
report back to the Board of Commissioners. .
~otice of applications for license renewal were received f~om the Washington
State Liquor Control Board were received for the following:

There being no objection to the license renewal of any of the applicants,
the applications were approved by the Commissioners~
, Letter was read from the Port of Port Townsend regarding and requesting
improvement of the Airport entrance from the highway. .Fel tit ,wasn't too bad for
ingress but the egressing cars were blind to oncoming traffic until they were out onto
the highway. Emgineer Becker reported a slashing crew would eliminate the problem

Engineer Becker reported bid call was recalled on gravel 'site on Hoh River
due to los~ of gravel stockpile site~ Becke~ has located a gravel source on the
IfJinnie Pe.tersen property. New bid call has been put out for June 17th. Commissioner
Arey moved, Commissioner Kelly seconded ;notion for. approval of bid call as outlined
by the Engineer. ,
B~cker reported that the County Road Project on OilinG ,rill not be as great or
costly as anti cipated. iiext project ',..ill be started after the 4th of .July. Will
only be maintenance and repair this year.
Auditor Betty Temple reviewed \'lith the Commissioners her determination on
the best way to acquire Voting Machines for Jefferson County \'li~hout e~pending any
ini tial outlay at this time.' ' Commissioners ;voiced objections to consi~eration of
any further outlay or obligations at this time..
Tom Parks, Skyway Construction, presented invoice for init.,ial phase of work
to date on Courthouse repair.
Sheriff Hansen appeared requesting the Commissioners' to give him the
Auditor's storage room under stairs in basement for an interrogation room for the
attorneys and clients. Said they must be given a pr:!.vate room to. talk in and he had
no spare space available. Auditor felt this room would not be adequate for the pur-
pose the Sheriff requested and expressed the need for the room for election supplies
whi ch are large and bl,llky and \'lith the los~ of this room will require these items
to be carried back and forth to the top floor of tho courthouse. This would require
much extra work and luggi~g around for the janitor, besiees being an ideal convonience
for storage as it has in the past. She will leave the decision to the Commissioners.
Engineer Becker discussed a problem on acquiring road right of way from the
University of Washington. Prosecuting Attorney Daly will write letter to the University
for Mr. Becker.
April Minutes were approved as read by motion' of Com~issioner Kelly, second
by Lyall Arey and unanimously approved.
Being no further business before the Board, the me~1ting W[W adjourned for
furbher road inspection.
