10:00a.m. Meeting called to order by I\lember George Huntingford with A.I\I. "Bud" O'Meara
present and Chairman Walter A. Kelly being absent.
Auditor, Betty Temple appeared regarding the Board of Equalization meeting in June.
Nr. James H. Bercu, from Western Elevator came before the Board concerning the elevator.
Brought forms of acceptance, and with the signing of acceptance by the Board, the elevator
is turned over to.the County. Also presented maintance proposal. Commissioner Huntingford
asked Becker if the elevator had been inspected and Becker stated that it was inspected for
safety, etc. and it all checked out.

Motion made by Commissioner Huntingford and seconded by Commissioner O'Meara to accept and
sign acceptance of elevator from Western Elevator Corporation.
Motion made by Commissioner Huntingford and seconded by Commissioner O'Meara to accept the ';
final,plat of Little Quil Estates. Chairman Kelly being absent, Prosecuting Attorney William'
Daly dictated as follows: The proposed final platt of Little Quil Estates having come on ~,
for approval this 8th. day of May, 1970j that all pre-requested info~ma~ion pertaining to
acceptance of plats having been complied with and so approved by the County Treasurer and
the County Engineer, certificate attached, and whereas the Chairman of this Board being
absent on official business, that evidence of approval be carried out by A. 1\1. O'Meara,
Chairman protem.

Economic Development Administration would like Commissioners to sign Resolution of intent.

~~REAS, Jefferson County has had a total unemployment ratio of 7.6% far calendar year 1969
6.4% for calendar year 1968, and 6.5% for calenda~ year 1967,
MiEREAS, the average rate of total unemployment for 1970 would appear to be averaging well
in excess of 6%, and
MiEREAS, there appears to be no foreseab1e change in this trend, and
WHEREAS, this economic situation creates hardship and deprivation to many people whthin
this county, and

there are available for counties which show an unenployment rate in excess of 6%
far over three years certain funds under the Economic Development Administration
(E.D.A.) program for projects which are intenied to lower the total unelllploymen t
rate and stimulate local econ~mics, and

WHEREAS, it appears Jefferson County presently can qualify for said monies and is in need
of development programs designed to stimulate the local economy, now,

111EREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the board of Jefferson County Commissioners that it is their
intention to apply for funds under the Economic Development Title 1V program in
order to aid in the stimulation of the economy of the said county, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the revision of the 1961 economic base study be commenced imm-
ediately in order to bring it to a current status by July 1, 1970.
