Representative from the DepartmEn t appeared with photographs to show the damage caused to the
embankment by the tides and the threat to the blacktop.puking area above. Motion by Commissioner
O'Meara, second by Commissioner Brown to approve exemption. Unanimous.
Board received a contract to be executed between the Department of Social and Health Services and Jefferson
County for the provision of inpatient services at Firland Hospital for T. B. patients. Commissioner O'Meara
advised that Firland is heing phased out as of October lat. and thats why the county must now have a contract.
Motion by Commissioner O'Meara, second by Commissioner Brown to approve contract. Chl14rman Kelly signsd
for the Board.
Ms. Mary Jenior, Planner, U.S. Navy, appeared re: Trident Navy Project at Bangor. Stated her reason for being
here is to meet the Board and find out what all problems and concerns, if any, they foresee in the county in re-
gard to the Trident development. Said they are concerned with the adaptability of the county to a program of this
extent as it wUl definitely have an affect on this county. Commissioner Brown asked if the Navy has plans to
util1ze Indian Island for part of their instalation, because if they do, it would have a large impact and could
impose many problems. Ms. Jenior said there is a posibility, but..nothing definite has been decided as yet.
She said a mechanism would be set up for the county's imput and concerns and the Board will be advised of pro-
gress on the impact statement. Commander Jerry Dunn will be stationed near Bangor to help with any possible
problems and for continuity and coordination between the elected officials and the Navy.
Vickey Kendall appeared to request payment from the county for breakage of her car windshield caused by rocks
thrown by a passing county truck. Board advised her to obtain an estimate and present it to them for investigation.
Mr. Vic Oblas,Kramer,Chin & Mayo, appeared to present breakdown in costs for printing of county Solid Waste
Management Plan and Impact Statemtment. Presented copies of original propsal and final cost breakdown includ-
ing copies of invoices. Stated additional costs were due to request for 60 copies from The Department of Ecology
and the necessity of extra pages in the report to conform to state requirement. Reported cost of printing is
$1,708.96, amount billed to the county is $1,500.00. After further discussion, Commissioner O'Meara made
a motion to pay the $l, 500 printing cost. Second by Commissioner Brown and unanimous by Chairman Kelly.
The following correspondence was reviewed without comment:
Letter of appreciation from the Rhododendron Festival Committee for use of Memorial Field.
Executed copy of the amendment to the S. M. Phas e I Master Program, from the Department of
Ecology.
Notice of amount allocated to the M.R.Broad ($2,500 for 1974 and $1,250 for the balance of 1973) from
the Department of Social & Health Services.
Letter of approval for Pope & Talbot's amendment to S.M. Permit No.42, from the Department of
Ecology.
Copy of letter to United Pacific Insurance Company from Engineer Becker re: Bond for Leisure
Development Company Plat of Pleasant Tides.
Copy of letter to De1hur,Inc., from Engineer Becker re: Crushing Contract.
Gopy of letter to Stan Jacobson Development Co., from District Sanitarian advising that proof of
ownership must be resolved before approval of public well site will be granted.
Planning and Community Affairs Agency planning budget and salary survey forms.
Copy of letter to Charles H. Odegaard, Director, State Parks & Recreation Commission Of from the
Department of Fisheries re: Overflow crowds at Point Whitney Shellfish Laboratory.
County trust land transmittal of funds, from the Department of Natural Resources - $37.41 from
Bernice E. Martin.
Minutes of Intermediate School District # 114 Board of Directors meeting of June 7th.
Mr. Fred Houghton attended today's meeting.
There being no further business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
