families imagine their futures and work tirelessly to achieve their dreams for themselves and their children.
"I found out about First Step in 2015. I was new to the area and coming out of long-term substance abuse treatment. I was also pregnant and involved with CPS in order to gain full custody
of my two small children. I was alone, scared, and clean for the first time in a long time. I had no clue how to be a healthy parent or a human being in general, and I was desperate
for help. I found First Step, and they welcomed me with open arms. I met incredibly strong and inspiring women. They welcomed everyone with bright, hopeful smiles and offered a warm
& safe place.
First Step changed my life. They helped me heal & become the mom I wanted to be. The baby I was pregnant with grew up in their drop-in center. We never went without support or personal
essentials and I was able to regain full custody of my two younger children. Through First Step, I was able to heal; I became a responsible, safe, and fun mom. First Step became a safe
haven for me and had a big hand in saving my life; for that, I will always be grateful."
