VPRO Fee Lawsuit Settlement
In the last Alert we reported on a lawsuit <https://7pkkw.r.ag.d.sendibm3.com/mk/cl/f/sh/1t6Af4OiGsEag2bROwjf2zZ7gSQgRI/Ro4e-OylU_bK> challenging historical vacant property registration
fees.
A $1.9mm settlement appears to have been reached in this case.

Affordable Housing Lien Forgiveness Pilot Program
The City of Louisville recently announced its Affordable Housing Lien Forgiveness Pilot Program.
A common sense solution to return properties to productive use while addressing the critical need for affordable housing.
However, it also demonstrates the need to have preventative tools like a VPR to minimize the funds a municipality has to expend................that has ultimately to be written off.

Second post takes a look at an exemption request filed for a vacant property registration (VPR) in Minden, Nebraska. This situation appears to be a case of much ado about nothing. A
better and more efficient approach should be implemented.

Body Cameras for Code Enforcement
A recent article in Government Technology discusses efforts in Syracuse (NY) to outfit its code enforcement team with body-cameras and some of the challenges the administration is facing
in moving forward.
While there are real concerns (i.e. privacy) that need to be addressed, MuniReg will always support initiatives that protect the health and safety of code enforcement personnel.

"B2R" Leading to More Evictions and Maintenance Violations?
A recent LISC news release discussing the growing momentum of build-to-rent (B2R) housing developments and "a study to be published in early 2025 that found larger landlords file evictions
at nearly three times the rate of smaller owners and have double the rate of maintenance violations."
