Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Hello Community Leaders, This is a worthy watch if you have not seen it already. https://www.sausalitoworkingwaterfront.org/documentary In light of the long term planning currently under discussion, the above video seems relevant; If and when considering zoning changes, please keep sight of the bigger picture; Jefferson County is currently sustained by an intelligent, integrated business community. Yes, like every retiree popular area, we need housing for our labor force but not at the expense of public green spaces nor our revenue generating, living wage paying industries. There are plenty of empty lots for new construction. Additionally, please note my opposition to ever permitting 'big box stores' in this community, which is thriving thanks to small businesses and entrepreneurs. Too many people order online already and those eye-sore strip malls are little more than 30minutes away in any direction. * Big box store construction is an environmental nightmare. * Their poorly managed low wage jobs will typically go to people commuting from as far away as Bremmerton (already a problem) = more emissions..more traffic.. more wear and tear on infrastructure. * Large Corporate management out of touch with on-the-ground reality will not decide for local community interests. (I'll add large cruise ship companies to this category) * Businesses like Henerys, Edensaw, Carls, Arrow Lumber, Admiral Ship Supply, Don's Pharmacy, Quimper Mercantile, ++ and all of Main Street would suffer if not go out of business. * Once you open Pandora's Box, .... .... I believe that you are all greater minds and will not fall into the same failed patterns of other communities that had less to offer to begin with. We, in this community, are so incredibly lucky and, so-far, smart, to support and grow our working waterfront, small business, and education community. These comprise the 'bigger picture', with a strong triple bottom line, long term stability, & quality of living. I believe this support will keep us standing tall when others can only feel nostalgic for better days. Thank you for your time. Thank you for the work you do. Happy New Year. Respectfully, Ashlyn Brown small business owner maritime advocate
