UGN was founded almost 70 years ago and serves as Jefferson County's United Way, supporting local front line organizations that help our neighbors meet their basic needs with things like shelter, food, and financial assistance. You see, Jefferson Community Foundation works on a broad range of issues over long periods of time with a commitment to sustainable and systemic change. For example, JCF will work over the next decade to strengthen efforts that result in more affordable housing, increased childcare, and more workforce development opportunities for our young people so they can secure living wage jobs. While Jefferson Community Foundation focuses on the long-term work, though, we know that for some people in our community, there is no time to wait for systemic change. They need help right now. Meeting those immediate needs is the mission of United Good Neighbors. Take, for example, Eleanor, a grandmother in Port Hadlock raising her two young grandchildren. This year, Eleanor faced an impossible choice: pay for rising heating costs or buy enough groceries for her family. No one should have to make that decision. Thanks to donors like you, Eleanor didn’t have to. She received financial help and food through organizations supported by the UGN Give Jefferson Campaign, keeping her family warm and fed during a challenging time.
