J County COmmissioners/Porter - 2 - Nov. 18, 1985 On the other hand, having an access road that would be an extension of Thorndyke Hoad directly onto Manhattan Avenue as platted, and possibly taking a portion of the triangle of land separating .these lots 1 through 12 from Thorndyke Road, it would give the drivers going in both directions a chance to merge. Those heading in a southwest direction could us~ a left-hand turn signal to alert other motorists, and would be able to slow down before crossing the opposite lane of traffic if there Were any vehicles coming from the opposite direction. From a distance. there is a" better view of the area, although the road taking a turn at the bottom of that hill creates a further problem in distance vision. Those coming from the property along the proposed access road, would have a chance to increase their speed to merge and enter 'fhorn- dyke Road. This is the method that hiGhway engineers appear to have used with their freeway aCcess ramps.
