A resolution authorizing application for funding assistance for a Washington State Historic County Courthouse
Rehabilitation Grant to the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and the Washington State Department of
Archeology and Historic Preservation.
WHEREAS, the State of Was bing ton has established a grant program to fund capital improvements to historic county
courthouses; and
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is thus qualified
to apply for and to receive these funds; and
WHEREAS, Jefferson County has identified the Jefferson County Courthouse Historic Roof Structure Rehabilitation
Project as a priority to preserve and protect this historic building; and
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Courthouse Historic Roof Structure Rehabilitation Project is qualified to receive
funding under the terms of the grant criteria; and
WHEREAS, Jefferson County has set aside necessary cash and in-kind match to complete this project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that:
Jefferson County does hereby authorize the submittal of a 2009-2011 Washington State Historical County Courthouse
Rehabilitation Gran,;;pplication for the Jefferson County Courthouse Roof Structure Rehabilitation Project.

Resolution approving application for a Historic County Courthouse Rehabilitation
Grant to the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and the Washington State
Department of Archeology & Historic Preservation (DAHP)
Statement of Issue:
The Public Works Department is completing a grant application for the Washington State Historic County
Courthouse Rehabilitation Grant Program for the Jefferson County Courthouse Historic Roof Structure
Rehabilitation Project. The grant program is implemented by the Washington Trust for Historic
Preservation and the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation.
The project addresses structural deficiencies of the main courthouse roof and will upgrade original
construction methods and materials. Work will include seismic upgrades to the structure of the main roof,
associated masonry & weather-proofing repairs, and stabilization of a brick chimney.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's & Con's:
The Historic County Courthouse Grant Program requests that the BOCC sign a resolution in support of this
project.
The signed resolution is a required element of the grant application packet and must be completed before
the application can be submitted. The resolution is compatible with the County's Strategic Goal of seeking
non-local sources of revenue. The Courthouse project specifically responds to the strategic goal of
providing for community facility and recreational needs, with a view to the long-term.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis:
The grant request is for $300,000. The match is $150,000 cash and $150,000 in prior work. Funds for the
required cash match have been dedicated from the Construction and Renovation Fund. The balance of
match is proposed as a credit from prior improvements to the Courthouse.
