Dear John,
I and all of us here at the Sierra Club hope this new year finds you and your loved ones healthy and out of harm’s way. Our hearts go out to all who have lost so much to the unprecedented
fires in Southern California. Many of our supporters, volunteers, and staff have been among those impacted. That likely includes many of you reading this newsletter.
The Sierra Club has been pushing back against attempts by this new administration to cut federal aid to California and continues to call on Congress to pass much-needed federal aid without
condition. I recently joined with our local Chapter leaders and community activists in Southern California to survey the devastation from the fires and to meet this moment of pain with
action. We then held a press conference calling on the City of Pasadena to recommit to its mandate to achieve 100% carbon-free electric power by 2030.
The resolve and dedication of America’s disaster-stricken communities, from Greater Los Angeles to North Carolina, to rebuild and take meaningful action to address the climate crisis
are inspiring. That resolve is our light in the darkness, just as we, as leaders in this movement, are the light for all those who depend on our mission.
Our movement is not going backwards. We will continue to protect our lands and waters – in the courts, in state capitols, and in the streets. We will continue to shut down coal-fired
power plants and make the case for a clean energy future instead of more deaths – of humans and wildlife alike – caused by the extraction and burning of fossil fuels. We will continue
to protect the environmental progress we made these last four years that not only charts our best path forward for tackling the climate crisis but charts our best course for reinvigorating
America’s economy, leading the world economy, and creating a rising tide of opportunity that lifts all boats.
Thank you for everything. I look forward to your continued partnership and to the many victories I know we can and will still win in these challenging years to come. We’ve done it before
in the face of great challenges. With your steadfast support we will do it again.

SPOTLIGHT: People's March
We have been here before and we continued to win. We will do it again. The Sierra Club is built for moments like this, and no matter how steep the hill gets, we will always keep climbing.
