I am offering my highest recommendation of Andy Pernsteiner for interim sheriff of Jefferson County. In my work with youth and prevention programs in our county, I have been continuously
impressed with Sheriff Pernsteiner’s understanding of the issues affecting youth in our community. So often law enforcement focuses on punishment rather than prevention and I deeply
appreciate Sheriff Pernsteiner’s approach to prevention, not just with youth, but with our entire community. His installment of a navigator also reinforces that approach.
Sheriff Pernsteiner has attended the two annual Prevention Summits held by Public Health and offered many ideas and implemented suggestions provided by others who work with youth in
our community. His open mind and welcoming attitude are deeply appreciated, and sometimes even a surprise to those who don’t know him and expect law enforcement to be different.
I feel Sheriff Pernsteiner’s embrace of community-based law enforcement is the approach we need to navigate these changing times. His ability to set a high bar for his deputies brings
the whole department to a higher level of service while providing confidence in our local law enforcement for everyone in our county.
