ANALYSIS: On November 27, 2024, we advertised a vacancy for the Conservation Futures Fund Citizen Oversight Committee representing an Open Interest.Jefferson County resident Robert Simmons responded to the ad prior the December 11, 2024 deadline.They were the only individual to express interest in the vacancy. On January 17,the CFF Program clerk and two committee members interviewed Robert Simmons in person for this volunteer position. Robert Simmons is a resident of District 1 living in Port Townsend.They served as faculty at WSU Extension for over 30 years, focusing on water quality issues in the Puget Sound. During their tenure at WSU, they led the WSU Extension Water Resources team, oversaw the Thurston County Native Plant Salvage Project, obtained and managed over 60 grants, led volunteer training programs on habitat restoration and education, and collaborated with many conservation organizations and county departments. Their technical interest and expertise includes stormwater management, native plant restoration, and ecosystem resilience. The interview committee recommends Robert Simmons highly to serve a four-year term on the CFF Citizen Oversight Committee. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact to the county's General Fund for appointing Robert Simmons to a seat on the CFFCOC. His term will expire on February 10, 2029.
