Hello Heidi, Heather & Greg,
On the east side of Diamond Point Road, just before one reaches the turn for the Aerospace Road, is a very small turn out that has a trail that leads to Discovery Bay and a trail along
the bluffs. It is a part of Miller Peninsula State Park that is located in Jefferson County.
In addition to a bloated, wasteful development plan for the heart of the Park, WA State Parks has proposed to expand parking, add a toilet and put in 3 “Viewing Decks” for the trail
that follows the bluffs.
1. Has the Jefferson County Commission been approached by WA State Parks requesting an exemption to build 4 Viewing Decks along Discovery Bay Trail that is located in Jefferson County?
2. If so, has such an exemption been issued?
I believe that the exemption would be from the Shoreline Master Plan which regulates activities on high bank cliffs.
The proposed Viewing Decks located in Jefferson County are part a Miller Peninsula State Park development plan that will, at a great ecological and financial cost, significantly and
forever alter and destroy the nature Park - the last large, intact of lowland habitat on the north side of the Olympic Peninsula.
Thank you,
Donald Mazzola
