The Yard Waste Education Fund

RESOLUTION NO. 02-10
WHEREAS, the County operates a Transfer Station for the disposal of solid
waste, including yard wastes, by Jefferson County residents; and
WHEREAS, a 5 percent set-aside of all fees, net of tax, is collected for the
disposal of yard debris at the County's Jacob Miller Road Transfer Station; and,
WHEREAS, this set-aside is to provide funding to promote alternatives to
disposal at the facility and to offset costs associated with educating residents and
businesses about on-site yard debris management; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners find that it is in the best interest
of Jefferson County that a Yard Waste Education Fund be created.
NO~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners as
follows:
1.
That a fund to be known as the "Yard Waste Education Fund" be
established, that the Treasurer is hereby authorized to establish such a
fund and that the Auditor will consider this fund another budget item with
the account number #404-000-01 0; and
That the interest earned from the monies invested by the Jefferson
County Treasurer from this newly-created fund shall be deposited to that
fund.

FOR THE WEEK OF: January 11. 2010
I. Description -- A brief description of the agenda item.
This request authorizes the County Treasurer to establish a fund to
be known as the Yard Waste Education Fund.
II. Issues -- A short outline of the major issues or areas that
should be given particular attention.
A 5 percent set-aside of all fees, net of tax, is collected for the
disposal of yard debris at the County's Jacob Miller Road Transfer
Station. This set-aside is to provide funding to promote alternatives to
disposal at the facility and to offset costs associated with educating
residents and businesses about on-site yard debris management;
and,
III. Action -- What is the nature of the action the Board is being
asked to take (discussion, approval of a contract, support for a grant, etc.).
Approve the resolution.
