Jefferson County Courthouse Roof Stabilization Project:
Grant application to Washington State Heritage Capital Projects Fund
Statement of Issue:
The Public Works Department is completing a financial assistance grant application for the
Washington State Heritage Capital Projects Fund to help fund the Jefferson County Courthouse Roof
Stabilization Project. The grant program is provided by the Washington State Historical Society.
This project addresses structural deficiencies of the main Courthouse roof and will retrofit original
construction methods and materials. Work will include seismic upgrades to the structure of the
main roof, associated masonry and weather-proofing repairs, and stabilization of a brick masonry
chimney.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's & Con's:
The match ratio is 2 : 1. One-half of the match is proposed to be from prior work. The balance of
the match will be Federal funding which is already been applied for.
This resolution confirms County support for this Grant and assures match in the event of a grant
award. This resolution is compatible with the County's Strategic Goal of seeking non-local sources
of revenue. The Courthouse project specifically responds to the strategic goal of providing for
community facility and recreational needs, with a view to the long-term.
