Schedule Public Hearing
Statement of Issue:
The Public Works Department requests that the Board schedule a public hearing on
the 2010 update to the Jefferson County Non-motorized Transportation and
Recreational Trails Plan for 10 AM on May 17, 2010. The public hearing notice is
attached.
The Department will submit the Draft 2010 Plan to the Board and post it on-line in
conjunction with the publication of the public hearing notice.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's 8: Con's:
The Non-motorized Transportation and Recreational Trails Plan was adopted in 2002. It
guides the County's development of non-motorized transportation facilities, including
multi-purpose trails, safe routes for walking to school, and pedestrian and bicycle
improvements on County Roads. The Plan includes an inventory of existing facilities
and destinations, goals and objectives, and potential facilities that the County could
develop. The 2010 Plan will update this information and include a Six-Year Capital
Improvement Program.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis:
Updating the Plan is necessary in order for the County to continue to receive funding
for non-motorized transportation and multi-purpose trail projects through grant
programs administered by the State Resource Conservation Funding Board.
Recommendation:
The Department requests that the Chair of the Board sign the attached public hearing
notice.

The Department will conduct a workshop on the Draft Plan on May 17 prior to the
public hearing.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING:
DRAFT 2010 UPDATE TO THE JEFFERSON COUNTY
NON-MOTORIZED TRANSPORTATION AND RECREATIONAL TRAILS PLAN
Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held by the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners
on Monday May 17,2010, at 10:00 AM in the Commissioners' Chambers at the Jefferson County
Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson Street, Port Townsend, Washington, for the purpose of taking testimony
concerning the Draft 2010 Update to the Jefferson County Non-motorized Transportation and-Recreational---
Trails Plan.
The 2010 Plan Update will guide the County's development of non-motorized transportation facilities,
including multi-purpose trails, safe routes for walking to school, and pedestrian and bicycle
improvements on County Roads. It includes an inventory of existing facilities and destinations; goals and
objectives; potential facilities, and a Six-Year Capital Improvement Program.
Copies of the Draft 2010 Update are available at the Commissioners' Office at the County Courthouse, 1820
Jefferson Street, Port Townsend, Washington. Copies may also be requested by calling the Commissioners'
Office at (360) 385-9100 or emailingjeffbocc@co.jefferson.wa.us. The Draft 2010 Plan Update can also be
viewed on the County's website at:

the Draft 2010 Plan Update can be made at the public hearing, by letter to the Jefferson County Board of
Commissioners at PO Box 1220, Port Townsend, W A 98368 or by email tojeftbocc@co.jefferson.wa.us
until the conclusion of the public hearing.
