Greetings
My church is looking for a new pastor and the thing that keeps coming up is the high cost of housing in Port Townsend and the County.
It seems plausible that some of the high cost has to do with regulations on building.
After the recent fires in California, that state pared back regulations in order to help homeowners to rebuild.
The attached article explains how zoning and building regulations work to limit the number of houses built and keep home costs high.
The article appeared in the Wall Street Journal and pretty much takes aim at progressive states. But if you can overlook that bias, there remains a lot to think about.
Even if you were to make it much easier to build today, it would take some time before you would see the effect. So doing that really won’t help our next pastor. But it probably would
help the one after that.
