I wrote to you earlier about the ada toilet sounding like a motorcycle having a stroke or heart attack on the 12 th of February apparently Gary Keister director of Bayside Housing said
they had someone work on it. Gary was down here in the dining room of the 209a shelter and I spoke to him directly, he knew he was talking to me and I don't have reason to doubt that
they did have someone work on the toilet. It's been working for two or three days. The left hand stall was never worked on and the ADA stall sounds like a broken motorcycle again.
The buildings along water street are across from the Salish Sea . The street behind water st are the backs of the buildings which all have basements just like the 209a Monroe st shelter
is a basement. These buildings have basements they are all below sea levels. We have toilets that pump and when there are king tides and or below freezing they get messed up. When
there is a king tides the basement floods with salt water intrusion. There is a sign in the women's bathroom that blames the women for having to use the toilet and tells them they
will be kicked out of they break. Bayside was well aware of what they were getting into with this shelter, they even got into a fight with the American Legion their landlord about
who should pay not if but when they break, it seems February/ March are the most vulnerable months on this issue.
Every one is sick in here btw it doesn't matter if you run those filter fans, only one door no windows no airflow in/ out of building so it's just recycling air carrying COVID RSV Flu
masks make no difference in this type of situation.
On to Bayside insistence by sign on cage (desk) that says they have the right to take money from the federal government and refuse to deliver service to consumer. No specific things.
There are certain exemptions for physically disabled and mentally disabled folks the law allows due to contractor liability but on the Fair housing issue must provide bed toilet sink
shower Bayside is responsible for toilets that is what law says. If they want to sue the landlord the American Legion for the amount that it costs to keep them running they can certainly
do that. My experience has been staff worry about complaints coming back on them so more often than not if someone complains about being intimidated by another consumer the victim will
be thrown out, or the victim will leave because they don't feel safe. Because the shelter is more men than women you can imagine the way this leans. The pressure should be on you
if a woman won't stay here because of safety concerns that you should figure that out.
On 2500 Evans Vista camp the closest dumpster to the porta potties is directly behind the pet town shop in the back parking lot. There is a big sign that says anyone using the dumpster
will be prosecuted. So a lot of garbage is dumped in and around the porta potties. People are homeless the last thing they want is trouble from law enforcement so they just dump their
garbage where there is no threatening sign , so it can get pretty bad around the porta potty area. If you bring a dumpster maybe 30 ft away from porta potties you must put a sign saying
public welcome to use dumpster. Given that the city wastes 40,000 thousand a year on two guys who sit in their car 5 days a week for two hours in a city truck and do absolutely nothing
I think you can afford a dumpster at those porta potties.
