Greetings-
My name is Ben Stamper. I am a lifelong resident of south Jefferson
County. My grandchildren who attend Quilcene High School are 7th
generation residents of this county dating back to my Great-Great
Grandparents at the turn of the last century. I have also been a member
of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office since 1986 and a paid employee
since 1989. I have served under 7 different elected Sheriffs from Leland
Smith through Joe Nole. I plan to remain here after retirement. With no
tone of arrogance intended, I believe that I am uniquely qualified to
express my opinion regarding a difficult decision you are facing.
I have seen many changes in Law Enforcement during my career and things
will continue to change. New techniques must be developed to cope with
these changes while maintaining our central goal, the safety and
security of our citizens, our friends and neighbors. This can only be
accomplished through a progressive leader who keeps an open mind and is
willing to listen to new ideas and adapt to new procedures.
I know the candidates for this position. I have worked with Andy
Pernsteiner since the mid 1990's as both his supervisor and having been
supervised by him. Without reservation I feel that he is the only
candidate qualified to lead the Jefferson County. Andy possesses the
leadership qualities that we need to move our department forward through
good times, hard times and changing times.
I know that it is a difficult decision to appoint a department leader
who is normally chosen by the will of the people but I am certain you
will make the right decision.
Thank you for listening.
