Hello, my name is Linda Brewster. I am a Democratic PCO and was a part of the small Jefferson County Democrats committee that developed the questionnaire and interview process for the
candidates.
When I first read the questionnaire responses of the two candidates, my immediate impression was that there was only one candidate with the clarity of vision needed to lead the department
and to get buy-in from the staff. Having led the JCSO to complete 85% of the requirements for accreditation, Mr. Frank has watched for 6 years as subsequent leadership has let much
of that work expire. Accreditation will require JCSO to adopt best professional standards and to meet those standards every 4 years. Why would we not want that???? Heck, Grey’s Harbor
County has already completed their accreditation process! But there is apparently only one candidate who has long believed that accreditation is important, and who has both the energy
and motivation to get staff buy-in for that process.
He also identifies a gaping departmental need for more staff training, and more consistent supervision, guidance and support. I was impressed by his understanding and personal experience
with the value of debriefing after a use of force incident, which is not current practice in Jefferson County.
Members of our community, particularly those in the more remote parts of our county, deserve better service from the JCSO, and Mr. Frank is the candidate both acknowledging that problem
and with a plan to address it.
I strongly urge the Board of County Commissioners to offer the position of Interim Sheriff to Art Frank.
