Board, Please consider my letter of recommendation for Undersheriff Andy Pernsteiner for the position of Interim Sheriff. I have known Undersheriff Pernsteiner for about 23 years and during that time he’s always been a supervisor to me. I started in law enforcement in 2002 as an explorer with the JCSO and during that time I would ride with him during his role as a deputy sheriff. Undersheriff Pernsteiner played a significant role in my efforts to serve our community as a law enforcement officer from his positive attitude, community service, and motivation to do the right thing, all of the time. I moved on to be a reserve police officer for the City of Port Townsend and even though I wasn’t working within his agency, he still taught me things I would have otherwise not learned in my early career. I was hired as a dispatcher for Jefferson County and often time worked with then Sergeant Pernsteiner. I was impressed with the leadership he showed to his deputies, ensuring the community was served to the best of his abilities and problems were being solved instead of “brushed under the rug” so to speak. Undersheriff Pernsteiner encouraged me to come work for the JCSO where I began my career. He was my supervisor and again, taught me things early in my career I may not have learned until later. To this day he has an incredible ability to motivate his employees and create positive working environments while still holding deputies accountable. The leadership traits Undersheriff Pernsteiner has demonstrated have helped me become a better supervisor to my deputies. His main focus is providing the best customer service to all of our communities and making sure his staff has the best training and equipment to effectively do our jobs. Undersheriff Pernsteiner is the only candidate who’s shown any of these leadership abilities. He’s the only candidate that effectively communicates the goals and expectations of JCSO. In just the last Sheriff election, he’s a large part of why the entire Sheriff’s Office endorsed Joe Nole over the other candidate who is an employee. Andy Pernsteiner should be your only choice to fulfill the role of Sheriff to maintain a positive working environment for the JCSO staff and provide the best service possible to Jefferson County. Respectfully, Brandon Przygocki Chimacum, WA
