This season will be the third year of hosting on-farm sweetpotato trials on the Olympic Peninsula. This research, in collaboration with the WSU Mt Vernon Research station, is helping develop growing methods for successful sweetpotato harvests in western Washington's maritime climate. If your farm is interested in participating and would like to grow sweetpotatoes this season, please reach out to samantha.grieger@wsu.edu <mailto:samantha.grieger@wsu.edu> ! WSU Extension staff will able to deliver sweetpotato slips to interested farmers in early June. Five sweetpotato varieties are available, including one wireworm-resistant variety. Grants are up to $75,000 for planning expenses and $250,000 for working capital. This workshop provides an overview of the Value Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program. VAPGs may be used for feasibility studies or business plans and working capital, for processing, marketing, and sales of value-added agricultural products. New! Projects and costs related to on-farm production are NOT eligible. Business Builder grants will fund: * market research, branding and marketing materials * business development * post-production infrastructure and processing equipment * value chain coordination across producers, processors, distributors, and buyers In order to be eligible, farms, ranches and non-farm food businesses must be growing, producing, processing and/or supporting the aggregation, distribution and marketing of grain, pulse and/or pseudocereal products within local and regional value chains.
