Put your state B&O Taxes to work in Port Townsend thru PT Main Street--pledge today! You may know our work from colorful events last year like Concerts on the Dock, the Uptown Street Fair, the Downtown Trick or Treat Parade, festive holiday events/local shopping promotions, and Creative District efforts including Soundcheck. You might enjoy the winter lights in the trees, beautiful hanging flower baskets or the downtown pocket parks like Adams Street Park, or the Tyler Plaza with its overhead lights—all Main Street projects. We coordinate Earth Day Cleanup downtown, care for the rain gardens, manage two loan programs and hang approximately 500 pieces of children’s art in the stores as part of Art Wave in May. Last summer/fall, we coordinated the Downtown Mobile Greeter Program. Our friendly greeter worked Fri-Sunday with an e-bike equipped with visitor information (funded by LTAC). The greeter promoted our local businesses, things to do, lodging options and invited visitors to come back. We plan to expand this program in 2025. The Main Street Tax Incentive Program allows businesses to put their state B&O taxes to work locally through the Port Townsend Main Street Program. This is a key source of funding for our 501c3 nonprofit and enables us to put our mission and workplan (with so many programs for our community) into action. Business contributors who wish to participate must sign up each year through the Washington State DOR website and payments are due to our office by Nov. 7, 2025. 75% of your contribution is returned to you via B&O tax credits in 2026. The project will rectify a decades-old issue common to asbestos concrete pipe, which deteriorates when exposed to gases from sewage. The work is being planned for minimal impact and has been scheduled during a slower traffic season for Port Townsend. Site work will include traffic control. Project Schedule & Construction Notices Safety in a high-traffic area like Water Street is of the utmost importance. - Work hours will be between 7:00AM and 6:00PM. - Equipment is staged along Water Street behind the Lighthouse Center building, and adjacent to where work is occurring. The equipment staging and construction areas will be cordoned off. - There will be bike lane and single lane closures along the bluff side of Water Street, with open pits for sewer pipe connections. Pits will be closed with steel plating during non-construction hours. One side of the road along Water Street will remain open for narrow two-way vehicle and bicycle traffic – use extreme caution and drive slowly through the construction area. Pedestrians should use caution walking along the sidewalk in this area. - Businesses and residential parking lots will remain open and accessible at all times with the exception of the head-in parking located at the Triangle building on Water Street between Gaines and SR20. This is planned for project equipment and material staging within project construction boundary. - In the first part of the project, there will be sawcutting of asphalt and concrete, and drilling, which will generate construction noise during working hours. - It is expected that the road along SR20 will remain open for the entirety of the project. Traffic will be guided by flaggers when necessary. <https://mcusercontent.com/72d728eac0a891fc7cdd75517/images/4da91efd-1160-2718-f536-28d8862ec4d5.png> For more information and updates about this project, visit https://cityofpt.us/.../water-street-sewer-replacement...
