Commissioners: I just sent the following message to Governor Fergeson:
Yesterday President Trump said, regarding his spat with Canada, that we do not need Canada's timber, we have our own. He indicated that he was going to go after the federal timberlands.
He shows no inclination to be concerned about the future. I believe he will cut down our forests and sell the rights to what he hasn't cut. Now is the time for Washington, and each
county in Washington that has federal timber land, like Jefferson County, to enact legislation, rules and procedures that will slow this process to last four years and save our future
forests. That process needs to start now and not wait for the announcement of his plans for the country's natural resources.
NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT.
