WORKSHOP re: Olympic National Park Discussion with Kevin J. Killian, Deputy
Superintendent, Olympic National Park
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Mr. Killian will join the Board of County Commissioners to discuss the Upper Hoh Road
washout at or near milepost 9.7 and its impact on the Olympic National Park as well as the
continued expansion of the washout on South Shore Road and the impacts on North Shore Road.
ANALYSIS:
The Olympic National Park draws hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, especially
during the high season. The washed-out roads will have an adverse effect on the park and the
surrounding community.
Likely discussion topics will likely include efforts to find funding sources so that the roads can
be repaired in time to salvage the upcoming high season and priorities of ONP for the 2025
summer season.

None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Conduct the workshop and possibly provide guidance to staff.
