Jefferson County Commissioners,
The Marrowstone Island Bridge Naming Committee would like to "clarify" our request for the name of the new bridge.
In the BOCC Consent Agenda Request for March 10 it states, "...it
made good sense to name the bridge over that passage the " Passage Through Bridge."
In our request we stated the following, or some words to this effect:
"The island residents overwhelmingly supported the recommendation of the S’Klallam Nation to also name the bridge after the waterway. The goal is to have signs placed on or near the
bridge with the name “Passage Through Bridge” with “scɬə́qʷ" displayed underneath.” The native word for the waterway is “scɬə́qʷ”.
The overriding goal is to have bridge signs with both the Anglicized name, "Passage Through Bridge" and the traditional S’Klallam Nation name "scɬə́qʷ" on the sign.
Patricia and I will participate in the meeting via Zoom in the morning.
Thank you for your support and consideration.
