VA will keep a Veteran’s content secure until they pass away and VA approves a request for a burial or memorial benefit. Following approval, the content the Veteran submitted will become

Veterans, service members, and some family members may be eligible for burial in a VA national cemetery. Veterans, service members, spouses, and dependents may be eligible for burial
in a VA national cemetery, as well as other benefits, if they meet one of these requirements. One of these must be true:
* The person qualifying for burial benefits is a Veteran who didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge, or
* The person qualifying for burial benefits is a service member who died while on active duty, active duty for training, or inactive duty for training, or
* The person qualifying for burial benefits is the spouse or surviving spouse of a Veteran (even if they remarried after the Veteran’s death), or
* The person qualifying for burial benefits is the minor child of a Veteran (even if the Veteran died first) or, in some cases, the unmarried adult dependent child of a Veteran
VA provides eligibility determinations for interment in a VA national cemetery prior to the time of need. Through the Pre-Need Determination of Eligibility Program, upon request, individuals
can learn if they are eligible for burial or memorialization in a VA national cemetery. This program reaffirms VA's commitment to providing a lifetime of benefits and services for Veterans

national cemeteries. If you want to plan a burial in a VA grant-funded state, territory, or tribal Veterans cemetery, you’ll need to contact the cemetery about their pre-need program.
Some VA grant-funded cemeteries require that you live in that state or have other eligibility rules. You can apply for a pre-need determination of eligibility from VA and also a grant-funded
state, territory, or tribal Veterans cemetery.

As part of the VISN 20 NW MIRECC mission to enhance access to mental health expertise, the NW MIRECC collaborates and consults with other MIRECCs and Centers of Excellence, as well as
with other VA, Department of Defense (DoD), Federal, State departments of Veterans Affairs, community agencies, and experts. The close geographic proximity (40 miles) of DoD Joint Base
Lewis-McChord/Madigan Army Medical Center to VAPSHCS has provided an exciting opportunity to develop innovative and productive research, education, and clinical care collaborations
with DoD personnel that address PTSD and its associated conditions in their early stages in active-duty Servicemembers. VA ranks as one of the nation's leaders in health research. University
of Washington (UW) and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) are academic affiliates of NW MIRECC.
VA MIRECC's provide for the improvement of the provision of health-care services and related counseling services to eligible veterans suffering from mental illness (especially mental
