JEFFERSON
II COUNTYNERS
3/5/25
Jefferson County Commissioners,
This is an invoice for$250 for services rendered on 2/27/25, County road maintenance
performed at the intersection of Lords Lake Loop Road and Highway 101, which comprised of
filling numerous large water filled pot holes on the triangular piece of land necessary to
perform a right-hand turn on to Lords Lake Loop Road when heading south on Highway 101.
This sum covers just my costs, which includes dump truck service, five tons of gravel from
Penny Creek quarry, conversion of dump truck for manual off-load of gravel, travel to and from
site, helper labor, hand shoveling gravel into potholes, clean up, plus fuel. Please remit $250
within thirty days of receipt.
Background: Lords Lake Loop road intersects Highway 101 at an acute angle of about sixty
degrees heading south. It is just about impossible to make a right-hand turn onto Lords Lake
Loop Road from Highway 101 when heading south without transiting over this triangular piece
of land which is not paved. I have been performing this maintenance circa 2017 and, at my own
expense, paid for the gravel, fuel, truck service, and labor since Public Works seems to be
negligent with road maintenance at this intersection. I contacted the Public Works department
a number of times about maintenance at this intersection and opened dialogue about
realigning Lords Lake Loop road so that LLL road intersects Highway 101 at a right angle thus
establishing a traditional turn configuration and eliminating the pothole situation. Public Works
stated that this job was a very easy task to do but not on the schedule to be performed.
requested that this task be placed on the schedule. Nothing. When I now write to the director
of Public Works, I do not receive any further response, I suppose I'm just a Public Works pain in
the ass. My goal is to relieve myself(not that way Greg) of the necessity of filling potholes for
the county at this intersection. This is a task I already pay for via property taxes, fuel taxes, and
a host of other taxes and fees imposed without a vote. It has been years now trying to remedy
this constipated situation, without movement. It would be greatly appreciated if the County
Commissioners would add some fiber to the process and place LLL road realignment on the
schedule and let me know when this task will be performed, sooner rather than later.
Second complaint: Lords Lake Loop road sustained damage at about the 1.5 mile mark, with
about one lane being lost down the side of the slope, maybe close to ten years ago, during a
winter with heavy rains, due to inadequate culvert maintenance. Many years ago, I've asked
the director of Public Works when repairs will take place, who actually responded back then,
that repairs were expected to be accomplished the summer of 2021. It is now years past and
still nothing from Public Works, but mother nature continues her endeavors with more weather
damage because the slide is not protected. It would be greatly appreciated if the County
Commissioners would ensure that LLL road repairs are completed this summer since it is
shamefully past due.
