M. 3/8 mile east of Chimacum Jefferson County Dear Mr. Shaw: I have visited your site to observe the inspection pits excavated in the proposed • detached garage with a bonus room above. I have also visited the Jefferson County Community Development office to review the Critical Areas maps, specifically in the areas near your residence Your property is located in the NW 1/4, Section 14, Township 29 North, Range 1 West, Willamette Meridian. It is located at the toe of the slope of east side of Chimacum Valley about 3/8 mile from the main intersection in Chimacum. Box 2525 Silverdale, WA 98383 (360)692-5500 In reviewing the Jefferson County Critical Areas Maps and the Soil Survey of Jefferson County prepared by the United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, Issued August 1975 we have determined the following information. Your residence is situated on the Clallam Series soil and further classified as Clallam gravelly sandy loam, CmC. The proposed garage and bonus room are situated on the Tukey Series soil and further classified as Tukey gravelly loam. The soil inspection pits in the vicinity or you garage verified this information. The soils encountered in the inspection pits had a shallow topsoil layer underlain with a dense gravelly loam. This soil is very compact and near a till condition. The soil in this area is at a slope of 1 vertical to 21/2 horizontal. ( 40 percent ) In looking at the critical areas landslide hazard map for Jefferson County the soil area is listed as a moderate landslide hazard. See Enclosure 3, Landslide Hazard Map. In reviewing the Landslide Hazard Map further the high landslide areas appear to be further south where the road section cut slopes are in the range of 1 vertical to 1 1/2 horizontal ( 67 percent) In summary, the area for the proposed garage is stable. The existing slopes will not be changed. I recommend that footing drains from daylight basement garage foundation be drained to daylight. The downspouts should be tightlined in a separate line to daylight.
