Dear County Commissioners, I support stricter regulations for Short Term Rentals in Jefferson County. While I understand that our tourism industry is important, and we want visitors to enjoy pleasant lodgings, it's essential that working people in our county can find affordable housing, and too loose regulations for STRs increase the risk of removing workforce and family housing from the housing market. In order to limit the conversion of more family homes to STRs, I support the following recommendations: 1) Cap the number of Short Term Rentals (STRs) to 3% of the County’s Housing Units. 2) Require the STR to be located on the same property as the homeowner's primary residence. 3) Set expiration dates on STR permits. 4) Require short term vacation rental platforms, like Airbnb and VRBO to register with the County in order to operate. I believe these are not excessively onerous for STR owners, and will help ease the housing crisis in our county. Sincerely, Susan Thompson Port Townsend
