Don was one of KPTZ's founding board members and his show Broadway Showtime, featuring Don's exploration of the music and stories of selected Broadway shows, has been on 91.9FM since the station launched in 2011. When I spoke to Don on the phone a month ago, he was already pretty ill. He said it was his heart, and that it could not be fixed. I asked him if he would have any objections to continuing to run episodes of Broadway Showtime and he said he would be honored if we did. It will continue to air Sundays from 1-2pm, so we can all share Don’s love of theater and song. Don had a great love of theater, and was most recently seen on the stage in Saltfire Theater's August 2024 production of The Sneeze (based on stories from Anton Chekhov) where he played the Narrator (see photo). Don also enjoyed selecting and reading surprising short stories on KPTZ, both on Tossed Salad and more recently on Cats in Our Laps with Phil Andrus. At KPTZ we very much appreciate Don's dedication to community radio and his generous and ongoing support of the station over the years, including the green room/kitchen here at Building 305 where a sign says "With many thanks to Don and Sylvia White." In closing I'd just like to reflect that every time I saw him, Don White was kind, gentle and curious. I shall miss him very much. Please Look for a Special Memorial Episode of Don's show Broadway Showtime hosted by Larry Stein on Sunday, March 23rd at 1:00PM. – Taylor Clark, KPTZ General Manager <https://mcusercontent.com/6df05bfd2eaa0ab6bf92aa5cf/images/e1628ce3-c455-fe01-d4d7-1dd3250e8597.jpg> LIVE CONCERTS Maya De Vitry Tuesday, March 18 Rainshadow Recording, Fort Worden, PT Rainshadow Concerts presents Maya de Vitry in concert at their studios at Fort Worden, 7:30pm (7pm door). Originally from Lancaster, PA, Maya is a Nashville-based songwriter, recording artist, producer, and instrumentalist whose music blurs the lines of country, folk, indie rock, and Americana. An admirer of the dedicated song craft of writers like John Prine, Gillian Welch, and Townes Van Zandt — and of the stirring vocals of artists like Bonnie Raitt and Nina Simone — her music invites listeners into a space of openness and connection. Tickets: $20 Online at rainshadowtickets.com <https://kptz.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6df05bfd2eaa0ab6bf92aa5cf&id=2ffa4325a9&e=eba4e3a8b6> or $25 cash or check at the door. <https://mcusercontent.com/6df05bfd2eaa0ab6bf92aa5cf/images/c647e8da-0b2f-c3dd-7905-c509f7144da9.png> CANDLELIGHT CONCERT Joe Euro Thursday, March 27 Trinity Methodist Church and Broadcast on KPTZ Trinity United Methodist Church is proud to present local guitarist Joe Euro for an evening of classical/neo-classical/ guitar playing. Joe’s performance will feature acoustic, all instrumental “Finger Style” pieces, many using various open tunings and neo-classical techniques. He plays original compositions along with some actual classical guitar numbers. A few of his “Ambient Space Guitar” creations utilize a digital reverb and a volume pedal, to draw down that Taj Mahal-like reverb. Admission to the concert is free (really!), with a suggested donation $15 per person if you wish to donate. You are welcome to attend whether you choose to donate or not. Half the proceeds will go to Dove House Advocacy Services. This live performance will be simulcast by KPTZ 91.9 FM. Many of us first heard David play when he was performing on either the Bainbridge Ferry or the Port Townsend ferry. Turns out friendly captains welcomed the performances. But a few were not friendly at all. David is one of those musicians who lives to play. He first found Celtic harps at a Renaissance Fair in California. He became obsessed with the instrument and taught himself. Of course, by that point he already was a singer song writer and guitarist. Like many artists or musicians there were times where he needed a “day job” to supplement his music earnings. But the gentle music of the harp is his dream.
