Dear local partner,
Today, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is announcing the reopening of public comment periods on two proposals related to species found in Washington:
*
The Service is reopening the public comment period for a proposal to list the monarch butterfly as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. The proposed rule includes
species-specific protections and flexibilities to encourage conservation of the butterfly under section 4(d) of the ESA. A full news release is available online. <https://www.fws.gov/press-release/

*
The public comment period will also be reopened on the proposal to list Suckley’s cuckoo bumble bee as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act. A full news release is
available online. <https://www.fws.gov/press-release/2025-03/us-fish-and-wildlife-service-reopens-comment-period-proposal-list-suckleys>
Both comment periods will be reopened for 60 days, from March 19, 2025 until May 19, 2025. Comments submitted in the initial comment periods do not need to be resubmitted. See the notice
available in the Federal Register for more information <https://www.federalregister.gov/d/2025-04443> .
Public comments are an integral part of the listing determination process and the Service recognizes the complexity of the information requested for public comment. By reopening the
public comment period, the agency is ensuring everyone has a chance to share information relevant to the conservation status of these species.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
