Dear Members of the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners,
I'm writing to you today as the President of The Resort at Port Ludlow — and as someone who cares deeply about the economic health and livability of our community.
I understand the County is considering legislation that would impose limits on the number of short-term rentals (STRs). I want to express my personal concern about the potential impact
this could have on our local economy and the broader tourism ecosystem.
From where I sit, STRs are essential to meeting visitor demand — especially during peak seasons when traditional lodging is at capacity. They help generate critical lodging tax revenue,
support small business owners, and allow us to offer the kind of diverse, welcoming experience that keeps visitors coming back.
Imposing a cap on STRs could:
* Undermine the strength of our tourism economy
* Reduce funding for tourism-related services and infrastructure
* Disincentivize investment in our region’s growth
I fully recognize the concerns around housing availability and neighborhood impacts. These are real and require thoughtful solutions. But I believe we can find a balanced path forward
— one that preserves the economic benefits of tourism while also addressing community needs.
