Hello,
This message is for Jefferson County community members. You are invited to an open house on Wednesday, March 26th from 6:00-8:00pm at the WSU classroom (WSU Classroom, 97 Oak Bay Rd,
Port Hadlock, WA 98339) on the Chimacum Creek Drainage District and creek management options. The open house is being hosted by Jefferson County, the Jefferson Conservation District
(JCD), and WSU Extension.
As you know, the Chimacum Creek valleys with their rich soils have been the agricultural life blood of Jefferson County. Their agricultural development was made possible through alterations
in the natural drainage system. Most of the drainage improvements were undertaken a hundred years ago, in the 1920s, by Jefferson County Drainage District #1, also known as the Chimacum
Drainage District (DD#1). DD#1 was formed in 1919 but has been inactive since 1974, leaving drainage maintenance and management work up to individual landowners. As we can all see as
we drive through Center Valley, drainage is impaired. Jefferson County is partnering with the Conservation District to explore options for DD#1, and we need your input.
We will share results from an online survey that was promoted by mail to property owners in DD#1 and have opportunities for attendees to weigh-in on what makes sense for our community.
