It is also an important part of protecting public health and our valuable water resources. Jefferson County Public Health is offering Septics 101 & 201. Completing both classes will qualify you to do your own inspections, if your system is eligible. Course Descriptions: * Septics 101- Basics of septic system operation and maintenance. Topics covered include: How does your septic system operate? How do you maintain it? How do you landscape your yard without interfering with the smooth function of your septic system? What about garbage disposals? What impact does a working or failing system have on our drinking water, ground and surface water? * Septics 201 - Step by step inspection of the septic system and reporting the results. Classes are free, but registration is required. Space is limited. Please note: there is a $13.65 fee for homeowners who are eligible and want to become authorized to inspect their own system.
