Dear County Commissioners,
If you look at other counties in the state of Washington, they have learned that STRs have no effect on solving the housing solution. Quit wasting time and money on this project because
of what people think, does not solve it.
Use the history and data to solve your problems. Look at the City of Port Angeles. They spent $40,000 on a survey and report that the council ignored because they had an agenda (wanted
in China) to solve problem. It did nothing to solve the problem and wasted $40,000 an ignored survey plus wasted a year of staff time and expenses which te council ignored. They got
their way and it did not solve the housing problem? NO!
The cost of housing rose during Covid because retirees and remote workers wanted to be out of the big cities.
By the way, housing stock is an incorrect term. It indicates ownership by the city. The last time that I checked, the houses were owned by individuals who hold a deed with their name
on it, and they pay taxes to support public jobs. People need to train and work at jobs that pay to support their housing needs. Show me a builder that will build and sell a $900,000
house for $200,000 and I will buy one.
Focus on jobs and help working people to solve your housing.
I do not understand the push for more housing on the Olympic Peninsula, when in 20 years an earthquake is going to turn everything west of the I5 corridor to ruble. We know from Covid
that the farther west you go the longer it is to receive help.
