County Commissioners, Dr Allison Berry, and Willie Bence, Please see the KPTZ listener questions for Monday, April 7, 2025 BOCC Health Update listed below. Thank you, Lynn Sorensen KPTZ Virus Watch Team Questions for Dr Allison Berry: 1. Is it dangerous to buy cheap eggs in Canada and bring them back to Washington? Is it dangerous to buy Kinder Eggs in Canada and bring them back to Washington? Will either of these get seized at customs due to U.S. policies about importing dangerous foods? Are there different regulations about eggs and kinder eggs when crossing the border by ferry vs. by car? 2. My partner has returned from out of state and I am wondering about how long we need to isolate from each other. He wasn’t exposed to anything he knows of but I am very careful about my health. I am vaccinated (last Covid vac : October) and mask in public and maintain at least 5' distance outside. I am elderly and have asthma. How many days should isolation be for Covid, flu, and RSV? 3. From the KPTZ news transcript of April 3, 2025: 'The Washington State Standard reports that Washington was among 23 states that sued the Trump administration Tuesday over the cancellation of $12 billion in federal funding to address infectious diseases, substance abuse, and mental illness, including about $160 million for Washington. The lawsuit comes on the heels of the abrupt termination last week of grants related to disease tracking, vaccination efforts, and other work that officials said could cost thousands of jobs in public health departments nationwide.' Question: While Dr Berry has commented in the past that the Public Health Dept does not receive Federal dollar funding, this proposed termination of grants that are related to disease tracking and vaccination efforts and other work threatens jobs within public health departments nationwide according to this report. Dr Berry can you please comment on this threat to public health? Question for Willie Bence: 1. Would you please comment on the new program on KPTZ featuring the EJFD’s information and instructions regarding wild fire prevention in our community? Will this be an ongoing program into the summer/drought months on a regular basis?
