Faaaacinating institutional neglect happening here. To not take the opportunity to discuss preventable suffering in our community. To give me silence when I ask for the facts of homeless
deaths in Port Townsend.
Perhaps Port Townsend is only meant for clean people, wealthy retirees, and career climbers. The level of fundamental morality dodging across the community, government, and the non profit
sector is abysmal.
Because who actually cares about people suffering? Who wants to empathize with how it must feel for a drunk hobo to feel the cold creep into his bones because he has too much emotional
trauma to move anymore? To let his last breath slip knowing he has been severed from everything he loved and was ostracized by his own species.
Do you people not realize that the perceptual distortion of life created by your privilege and luck keeps you out of touch with the margins? Do you not feel the institutional bias in
your bones? Do you witness the lack of voices from non conforming life paths in your office? Do you not see your adherence to a rotting and unethical system blocks the greatest acts
of compassion and care that we could possibly accomplish? Do you understand, you are not representing the whole?
Your position of service begs you to risk a scrap of your reputation and comfort to take a stand for truth. Your benefits are intended to stabilize your life so you may create that stability
for others.
Our funding is being cut. There is no more school lunch. Our container is unpredictable. Deaths of our people in our city justify emergency measures, and emergency measures legitimize
our community to take the reins of fixing real problems at the local level.
Food, materials, manpower, infrastructure, housing. We must have the will. We must actively seek and circulate the resources of this very region. Not just for the dead. For all.
I am your reckoning, and you can only keep me out at the cost of your own humanity.

In Port Townsend today, existing shelter options are inadequate. Many residents have endured years outdoors. Hypothermia, untreated trauma, added trauma from the stress of homelessness,
unsafe sanitation, and overdose are all daily risks—conditions that degrade life, health, and dignity. These are not inconveniences. They are statutory indicators of a local disaster—and
these authorize the City to act now without waiting for years of planning processes, zoning adjustments, or procurement cycles.
Emergency powers under RCW 38.52 allow the city to:
* Enter contracts immediately with service providers, landholders, or builders to activate transitional housing.
* Hire personnel outside of standard civil service timelines—for example, to appoint a Housing Emergency Coordinator or launch rapid response teams.
* Incur obligations—meaning the City can implement a temporary housing solution today with the obligation to bring it up to code over time, while assuming responsibility for managing
legal and infrastructure follow-up, as well as the obligation to be proactive in affecting law to protect the sheltered.
