Most troubling is the behavior of my Department of Corrections (DOC) officer, who continuously refers to me as "Lopez"—a name that is not mine. This is not a harmless mistake; it is a persistent act that has made me feel profiled, disrespected, and intentionally mislabeled. Along with this, I have been accused of being in this country illegally and referred to as someone "invading" the U.S., even though I am a born and lawful citizen of this country. I believe this behavior constitutes not only a violation of my rights but a form of institutional racism and abuse of authority. Furthermore, I have been required to attend Narcotics Anonymous classes as part of my conditions, but instead of receiving support, I have faced racial hostility and emotional harm. While waiting for the bus at 1299-1201 Lawrence St, I was subjected to a racial slur—called a "beaner"—a deeply offensive and racist term. I was also publicly called a "dog" in front of 842 Washington St, which was degrading and humiliating. These are not isolated events. I've been glared at with contempt by passersby and even flipped off while standing at the bus stop. These repeated public humiliations have left a deep emotional impact on me. As a fellow American, I am deeply hurt and discouraged. I feel like I am being targeted based on my appearance, background, and perceived identity, rather than being treated with the respect and equality every citizen is promised under our Constitution. I am submitting this declaration in the hope that the City of Port Townsend will take this seriously, look into these incidents, and take appropriate actions. No one should be made to feel alien in their own country—especially by those who are supposed to support rehabilitation, fairness, and justice. I am open to further communication and cooperation to see that these issues are addressed. I am not just standing up for myself, but also for those who may be enduring similar treatment in silence. Thank you for your time, and I hope my voice will be heard. Sincerely, Angel Ivan Yepez-Valdovinos Angelvaldovinos000@gmail.com Date: 4/14/2025
