It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Senator Bill Ramos, who passed away this last weekend at the age of 69.
Senator Ramos was a dedicated public servant whose career spanned decades of leadership and advocacy in Washington State. He began his career with the US Forest Service and later served
in the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

Plan to Raise Cap on Property Tax Growth Collapses in Legislature
Democratic state lawmakers dropped their bid Monday to repeal a voter-approved limit on property tax growth in Washington, excising one of the most controversial revenue-raising ideas
they’ve pursued in this year’s legislative session.
The proposal, embedded in House Bill 2049, sought to allow an increase in the growth factor from the current 1% cap to as much as 3%. It would have applied to a state levy that supports
schools, and for cities and counties, as well as special purpose districts.

Franklin County Jail Changing Leadership
The Franklin County Jail has undergone a significant change in leadership. The Board of Commissioners voted to establish a Department of Corrections to manage the jail, effectively removing
the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office from control. This decision follows a state audit report released earlier this month, which alleged mismanagement of millions of dollars by the

Olympia City Council OKs Consolidating Its Municipal Court With Thurston County
The Olympia City Council voted unanimously April 22 to direct staff to begin negotiating an Interlocal Agreement with Thurston County for court services.
Sullivan said transitioning judicial services to the county, given the city’s financial challenges, is a viable option. The district court already serves most jurisdictions in the county,
including Lacey and Tumwater.

Local Officials Call for State to Continue Signature Homelessness Program
Officials from Seattle and King County are urging the state to carve a slice out of its tight budget to continue funding its signature homelessness program, which some described as the
“gold standard” when it comes to addressing encampments.
Last month, Washington’s House and Senate proposed budgets that would cut funding for the state’s Encampment Resolution Program by $30 million, 40% of its annual funding.
