When the Peninsula Trails Coalition (PTC) was formed in 1988, no one imagined that the ODT would become a vast trail network connecting so many people—regionally, nationally, and even internationally—to our home, the North Olympic Peninsula. As an intergenerational project, another reality has emerged: None of us serving today on the PTC board of directors will see the ODT’s completion. Not even close. That’s a good thing. That means we’ve built well. Yet, it also presents a problem: Who will be the next generation of Olympic Discovery Trail advocates, volunteers, funders, and builders? Who will run the PTC? I will tell you in a forthcoming email about our management and leadership plans for the future of the Peninsula Trails Coalition. I will also again ask you to contribute financially to our spring fundraising campaign.
