BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
WORKSHOP AGENDA REQUEST
TO: Board of County Commissioners
FROM: Mark McCauley,County Administrator
DATE: May 12,2025
SUBJECT: WORKSHOP re: Fireworks Code Enforcement
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Phil Cecere, Jefferson County Fire Marshall, conducted a workshop with the Board of County
Commissioners on Monday, May 12, 2025 to discuss fireworks and possible regulatory changes the
Board might want to see. The workshop was prompted by the upcoming warm and dry season and 4th of
July holiday.
During the workshop, the Board asked that the Jefferson County Sheriff conduct a follow-on workshop to
discuss fireworks code enforcement. Chapter 8.75 Jefferson County Code(JCC)regulates fireworks in
the County. Section 8.75.080 Enforcement calls on the Sheriff, or his designee,to enforce the fireworks
code at his discretion. The code also contains provisions for penalties for violations of the code.
ANALYSIS:
The Commissioners would like to hear from the Sheriff regarding enforcement of the fireworks code in
general, and enforcement plans for the upcoming 4th of July holiday observance in particular.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This amendment has no fiscal impact.
RECOMMENDATION:
Conduct the workshop.
