SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: Proclaiming the Week of May 11-17, 2025 as
National Transportation Week and May 16, 2025 as National Defense
Transportation Day
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
National Transportation Week was created by the United States Congress with a joint resolution approved
May 14, 1962 (76 Stat. 69),that requested the President to proclaim annually the week of May in which the
third Friday(National Defense Transportation Day) falls as National Transportation Week, as a tribute to the
men and women who, night and day, move our goods and our people throughout the land and around the
world.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve Proclamation re: Proclaiming the week of May 11-17, 2025 as National Transportation Week and
recognize May 16, 2025 as National Defense Transportation Day.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,National Transportation Week was created by the United States Congress with
a joint resolution approved May 14, 1962 (76 Stat. 69); and
WHEREAS, it was requested of the President to proclaim annually the week of May in
which the third Friday (National Defense Transportation Day) falls as National Transportation
Week; and
WHEREAS, this week is to show tribute to the men and women who, night and day,move
our goods and our people throughout the land and around the world; and
WHEREAS,National Transportation Week aims to raise awareness about the importance of
the transportation industry and its impact on daily life; and
WHEREAS, laborers, management, users, and investors across all communities benefit from
diverse forms of transportation; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Jefferson County Commissioners do
hereby proclaim May 11-17, 2025 as:
NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION WEEK
in Jefferson County and ask all residents of this community join in honoring our all our
transportation operators, who care for the public, and show our appreciation not just during this
week, but at every opportunity throughout the year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Jefferson County Commissioners do hereby
proclaim May 16, 2025 as National Defense Transportation Day.
