The provision would extend SRS through fiscal year 2026. This marks a major milestone in NACo’s advocacy efforts and reflects the hard work of county leaders nationwide in pushing for continued federal support for forested communities. What's Next? Although the House Agriculture Committee’s action is a positive step forward, the path to full reauthorization remains complex. The House Budget Committee will now assemble a single package incorporating proposals from all House committees. That comprehensive bill will then head to the full House for a vote. Meanwhile, the Senate is crafting its own version of the reconciliation package. Significant differences between the two chambers’ proposals are expected. Once both chambers pass their bills, they must negotiate a final version for a vote before it can become law. Urge Congress to Support SRS Reauthorization With the Senate still early in the reconciliation process, counties should reach out to their Senators urging them to support SRS reauthorization in the final reconciliation bill.
