Hello all!
We are in need of volunteers to help with spreading clean shell at our Discovery Bay Olympia oyster restoration site, 9am on Tuesday, May 27th ! This shell will provide substrate for
nearby native Olympia oyster larvae to settle on and grow - a restoration method that continues to be successful in South Discovery Bay. We had 1000 bags delivered to the Powerlines
site last month, and are excited to get back out in the mud and get them opened up with your help!
What to expect:
We'll park at our meeting location (follow up email with more info will be sent prior to event) then walk out to the restoration site together. Note that walking from the shoreline to
the restoration site can be tricky with the mud - mud boots and comfort walking on mudflats are a must. We'll help guide you along the best path, and please know that once we're at
the site, it's much easier to move about. We'll be out there for a couple of hours cutting open and shaking out bags of shell to distribute them.
What to bring:
Mud boots
Gloves, for handling oysters (we'll also have some gloves to lend)
Weather appropriate clothing (layers, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses)
Water
A small backpack to wear or 5 gallon bucket with your personal supplies; We'll have a few extra buckets for storing personal items too
Please reach out to Neil directly at nharrington@jamestowntribe.org <mailto:nharrington@jamestowntribe.org> if you're able to join, or if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Neil Harrington
